Quick tutorial on using HostGator.com’s QuickInstall tool to quickly and easily install WordPress or any other script.
Quikinstall can handle over 70 other open-source applications including: CMS (Joomla, Drupal), Blogs (WordPress) and E-commerce Software (Magento).
For your new website choose WordPress as this is the easiest system to start a website that you can use very fast and can adapt to growth and is easy to maintian.
After you installed WordPress there are a few things you need to set right away to make sure you get the most out of your site and get good rankings in Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.
1. Set the Permalinks option to custom with the option /%category%/%postname%/
2. Cleanup (trash
) the standard stuff like the example page and the Hello World post which come with a default installation.
3. Rename the default post category to something more suitable to the topic of your site, don’t forget to remove the slug text as well.
4. Go to Users -> Profile and change your Screen display name to something else than your username!
5. Check the upload function by adding an image to the Media Library: Media ->New -> Browse to your computer and choose upload.
